This was the 9th Innovation for Extremes Conference : ‘the annual conference for innovation in all mountain and adventure sports and extreme environments. Sponsored by the Outdoor Industries Association and supported by The Textile Institute is now in its ninth year.
Innov_ex 2011 took on a new day and a half format focusing on
Emerging Technologies on Day 1 and
Sustainability as a journey on Day 2.

Our outward facing agenda brought together delegates from across the outdoors industries and sports and from universities with strong engagement with outdoor companies. They were able to draw inspiration and learn from the experience of speakers from inside and outside the outdoors industry.
- Innov_ex dinner
The focus of emerging technologies on Day 1 provided food for thought for retailers, manufacturers and designers in many diverse ways. All pointed to ways of better engaging customers, the challenges and opportunities of mobile, and ways of blending the physical, digital and social media environments.
Some of this was in the future but much is happening now with implications for all businesses.
